Close Up details from Sally’s work in progress on her response to Turner

It’s been an amazing couple of months for Sally as she has been working on a new collection of abstract landscape paintings entitled ‘A Contemporary Twist on Turner’, inspired by and responding to those amazing sea and skyscapes Turner was famous for, and the essence of which we find throughout the designs she has created for Red Dog.

Comprising of a variety of large and small works depicting wild and swirling seas, windswept beaches and thunderous yellow skies, Sally’s paintings were featured in a solo exhibition at the Hidden Gallery, Clifton, throughout October 2019. Painted on canvas, this body of work also includes a set of nine giclée prints – digitally manipulated versions of one of the original paintings .

A number of paintings were sold to private collectors at the show, as well as a further private commission. The trio above shows details of that painting ‘Ship Caught in Snowstorm at Sea II’. Sally says_

This commission was a great outcome from the show and I very much enjoyed the challenge. I’m loving the larger canvas to work on – means I can stretch out a bit and get very energetic with the paint brushes, which I absolutely love! I hung the fresh canvas from the wall, painted straight onto it then stretched it over the stretchers and strung it. I signed it of course and packaged it safely, and borrowed a friend’s van to deliver to the Gallery for collection by the new owner.

This was Sally’s second show at Hidden. It has been wonderful seeing these paintings find form in celebration of her love of wide, open spaces and sense of space and infinity, which is behind many of her Red Dog designs too.

Well done Sally – we are really pleased for your swirling success!
