Global colour authority Pantone has announced its colour of the year for 2023, and it’s a very Red Dog Glass kind of colour!
Bold and brave, Viva Magenta is rooted in nature, very much like founder and lead artist Sally’s abstract paintings. Inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family, Viva Magenta is a vibrant force of nature.
In the words of the colour institute itself, it’s “an animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint.”
As we said, it’s a very Red Dog Glass Design colour!
“I think it’s a great choice,” says Sally. “It’s energising, but a warm energy which builds on strength and resilience. I think everyone is going to need this form of energy over the next year.”
“Red plays a major part in all my paintings and I often use it as a grounding colour to paint on. It brings a depth to my painting that other colours don’t.”
Is Viva Magenta just for the most fearless of interiors though? Not according to Sally.
“I think this colour can be played either way, depending on the furniture you pair it with and how you dress the room. You can create a very moody, atmospheric jazz club feel with rich leathers and subtle lighting. Our bespoke glass design Journey II perfectly demonstrates how blending Viva Magenta with complementary rich tones creates a really warm and energising bespoke glass splashback. For something more attention grabbing, why not pair it with vibrant cobalt blue or green velvet furniture. I’m thinking lots of plants and lots of natural light for a really contemporary interior.”
